SPIRIT OF COURAGE AWARD
Congratulations to our 2009 Award Recipient:
Sharon Dreyer
Sharon Dreyer learned early in her real estate career that communication was the foundation of strong relationships and successful transactions. Having fine tuned her communication skills as both a flight attendant and an actress in television commercials, Sharon set her sights on a career in real estate where she could meet new people and bring their hopes and dreams together. It’s her steadfast commitment to her clients that has earned Sharon much recognition, such as being named one of the best agents in Houston by “H” Texan magazine, and the Houston Chronicle’s “Sold on My Realtor” award.
The eldest of four children, Sharon is very down-to-earth and always speaks from her heart. Motivated by a hefty dose of self-determination, Sharon is often described by her peers as tenacious, optimistic, reliable, and most importantly to Sharon, sincere and caring. Her gorgeous smile is a reflection of her loving nature and warm sense of humor.
First diagnosed with breast cancer in October of 2002, and later re-diagnosed in October of 2008, Sharon is a true role model of courage in the face of diversity, as she continued to work throughout her treatments. She said that it was very important for her to keep her life as close to normal as possible during that time. From her personal experiences, she wants nothing more than to be able to educate other women regarding the opportunity for early diagnosis through diligent self-examination, annual exams and mammograms.
Sharon draws her tremendous strength from her mother, and has incredible support from her husband Lance, their four children, friends, family and the real estate community. Sharon jokes, “From my first surgery to the last surgery, I have been showered by gifts of food, flowers and words of encouragement, especially from my friends, who have encouraged me, among other things, to keep my hair short.”
Sharon describes herself as a cat with nine lives. She has successfully fought off two bouts with breast cancer, and has survived not one, but two harrowing plane crashes. “I am so humbled by this award. Nancy Owens was a dear friend of mine, and one of my inspirations for becoming a Realtor. When I look for my inspiration and hope, I look at the breast cancer survivors who came before me. Being a survivor teaches you a lot about life and human nature, and above all gives you the strength to handle whatever may come across your path,” says Sharon.
