2010 Luncheon Speaker
Allen Wilson
Allen Wilson is a Houstonian and two-time breast cancer survivor. In 2003, after his first occurrence, Allen was impassioned by his experience and reached out to the Houston Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization. He felt through his own struggle of being a man with what society has labeled a woman’s disease, he could raise awareness and breakdown the stereotypes that prevent men from being more vocal. His mission is very clear: to disseminate that this is not “just a girl’s club” and that the breast cancer battle is one of early detection, perseverance and hope.
Allen currently serves on the Houston Komen board, heading the strategic planning committee. Additionally, he channels his awareness efforts on fundraising and being a media spokesperson.
As an avid mountain climber, Allen has incorporated his passion for finding a cure for breast cancer by placing a pink ribbon on top of Mount Kilimanjaro. He is Senior Vice-President of GEM Insurance, LP in Houston, married to Lisa, and has two sons in college, Robert and Michael.
